Trade Alert: Raptors Acquire Brandon Ingram from Pelicans

Despite the setbacks caused by a spate of injuries, the Pelicans have decided to trade their former All-Star forward, Brandon Ingram, to the Raptors. Ingram has been out of action since December with a sprained ankle. In return, the Pelicans are receiving the services of guard Bruce Brown and center Kelly Olynyk, along with several draft picks, including a coveted first-rounder.

With Ingram and Zion Williamson limited to just 32 total appearances and Dejounte Murray out for the season with a torn ACL, New Orleans finds itself at the bottom of the Western Conference standings at 12-39.

Ingram had played well when available, averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists. His production is similar to a pair of new teammates, Scottie Barnes (20.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 6.4 apg) and RJ Barrett (21.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 5.7), giving Toronto one of the NBA’s more versatile trios.

Despite a similar position to New Orleans near the bottom of the East table, the Raptors have shown significant signs of life recently with eight wins in their past 11 games.

It’s been one trade after another for Brown since he signed a multiyear deal with Indiana after helping the Denver Nuggets to an NBA title in 2023. Brown was dealt to the Raptors last January and now to the Pelicans.

Brown has been limited to 17 games this season after undergoing a procedure on his knee in September. He’s averaging 8.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Olynyk has dealt with injuries this season, too, playing in 23 games. He’s averaging 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds.
