The NBA has been keeping track of steals since the 1973-74 season. One notable record was set in the fourth season of steals being an official statistic when San Antonio's Larry Kenon recorded an impressive 11 steals in a game against the Kansas City Kings on Dec. 26, 1976. This record still stands as of the 2024-25 season.

Kenon’s record was tied 23 years later by New Jersey’s Kendall Gill, who swiped 11 steals in an 88-77 Nets win over the Miami Heat.
