New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant’s miscommunication almost led to Kohli being dismissed in India’s second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park in Kanpur. In the third session of Day 4, Virat walked in to bat at No.5 after Shakib Al Hassan had taken Shubman Gill's wicket.

After Skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a fiery start to India’s innings, Rishabh Pant was promoted up to No.4. Kohli was sent at No.5. The 35-year-old bater did not have the desired outings in the Chepauk Test after he failed to score big in both innings of the opening Test.

In the first delivery of the 19th over, Kohli could easily have been run out, but he had luck in his favor. Kohli tapped a slower one from Khaled Ahmed and ran for a single Pant responded initially before sending Kohli back.

Kohli was short of making it back to the striker’s end, but Khaled fumbled the chance, missing the stumps while attempting to dislodge the bails.

Kohli seemed irritated at the beginning, though, but then hugged Pant. Kohli was at two runs when he managed to just save himself from getting dismissed. So far, till that moment, India seemed in a strong commanding position as they easily reached 147 for three in 18.1 overs.

After Bangladesh had been bowled out for 233, Rohit and Jaiswal opened with the first wicket adding 55 runs in just 3.5 overs. Rohit fell for 23 but the innings picked up by brilliance from Jaiswal as he smashed 72 off 51 balls, which included 12 fours and two sixes.

Hasan Mahmud clinched Jaiswal’s wicket, but Shumbman Gil kept the momentum going with his 39 runs off 36 deliveries. Rishabh Pant failed to perform as per expectations as he got out for nine runs off 11 balls.
