Two Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Ben Chilwell ahead of potential January transfer

Chilwell was among the players placed on the transfer list at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea aimed to significantly reduce their vast squad size.

A number of players were training away from the first team and up for sale, with seemingly no future at Chelsea as a result.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Kepa Arrizabalaga secured their exits, but Chilwell did not leave and is now set to stay in west London until January at least.

The England international was named in Chelsea’s 25-man Premier League squad after the transfer window closed and now could be picked by manager Enzo Maresca in what would be a remarkable turnaround for him.

However, an exit in the new year is certainly a possibility, with The Sun reporting that both Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town hold an interest in him.

Why neither club decided against making a move over the summer is not clear, but the report states both are interested in a January deal if it can be done.

The former Leicester City man is still just 27 years old and wants to play regularly, so if his game time at Chelsea is very limited until January then he will be interested in a move.

The Blues paid £50m for Chilwell when they signed him from the Foxes in 2020 and he has since made 106 appearances for the club.

His time with Chelsea has been hampered by injury, with the 27 Premier League starts he made in his first season still his best return.

Last season saw the left-back make just 21 appearances in all competitions as he struggled with hamstring and knee injuries.
